Dr. Michael Mew will lecture at IAQA meeting

Orthodontist Dr. Michael Mew from London (UK) will be guest speaker at the annual assembly of the International Association of Qualified Atlasprof®s (IAQA) in early October in Hamburg, Germany.

His presentation at the IAQA meeting will deal with:

Craniofacial Dystrophy*; the relationship between crooked teeth and forward head posture

“Have we all failed? A forward head posture, once very rare seems almost normal in today’s modern society. So has the combined effort of the whole of postural medicine failed to stem this tide? While we know that laptops, smart phones, and sitting too much are certainly important causes is there more to this. Dr Mike Mew proposes an underlying syndrome connecting a forward head posture with jaw joint problems, crooked teeth, many ENT problems and sleep apnea, in a single interconnected system.”

-- Michael Mew

The lecture topic is interesting for AtlasPROfilax® practitioners in order to have a deeper knowledge of cranio facial mechanisms as a different approach to the aetiology of forward head posture. Both approaches - AtlasPROfilax® and Orthotropics - have a part to play in this and the IAQA members can look forward to discussing this and related topics with Dr. Mew.

It is planned to shoot a video of Dr. Mew's presentation for later online publication. We will inform you here and within our Social Media channels about this.

About the speaker:

Dr Michael Mew qualified in the early 1990s as dentist at the Royal London Hospital. He later entered the renowned Orthodontic programme at Aarhus University in Denmark under the mentorship of Professor Birte Melsen. After several years in general practice, facial surgery and orthodontic training at the NHS, he qualified as an Orthodontist in the early 2000s. For the last 15 years, he has practiced alongside his father, Professor John Mew, to improve the Bioblock Orthotropic system. Dr Mew continues to study the relationship between orthodontics, posture, ENT problems, snoring and sleep apnea. He is particularly interested in the Aetiology of Malocclusion and seeks to construct a broad based theory explaining its causes and cures. Dr Mew has lectured extensively in the U.K. and abroad.

* Dystrophy is the degeneration of tissue, due to disease or malnutrition.
